Mitt Romney casts himself as tough on illegal immigration in a new ad in which he says that, as Massachusetts governor, "I authorized the State Police to enforce immigration laws." He doesn't mention that his order never took effect. It came in the closing days of his administration and was rescinded by his successor, as we wrote back in August.Ouch.
He also promises, "As president, I'll . . . cut funding for sanctuary cities." Maybe so, but as governor he took no action against several such towns in his state.
We find Romney misleading on both counts.
How do Mitt Romney's immigration claims stack up against the facts? Not so well:

On social security, Thompson states;
"WASHINGTON — Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson on Friday proposed to stabilize Social Security's long-term finances by greatly reducing the benefits to be paid out over time, even to low-wage workers, and creating voluntary retirement investment accounts so that individuals could try to make up the difference.
Thompson said his plan has a sort of tough-love message that Americans need to hear when it comes to getting entitlement spending under control: "There are no free lunches for anybody in this."
Where does he come of with the "free lunch"...?
I would have glady used the 25-33 percent of my home pay that was taken into government spending, and not into funding SSI, to invest for my family.
Thompson, you, and your "entitlement, free lunch" thinking are what has ripped off this nation; your boys have turned welfare queens into corporate welfare transvestqueens that hide in
